Strike Syllabus Week 4: Disaster Capitalism and Neoliberalism (and you)

Slide Deck here

Facilitators: Eugene & Thomas (UCSB)

Week 4’s presentation zooms out to look at global capitalism, its neoliberal tendencies, and the types of environmental disasters that are both inevitabilities of the system as well as integral events of perpetuating and deepening global capitalist inequality. The presenters, Thomas (he.him) & Eugene (he.him), will be defining neoliberalism & disaster capitalism, giving examples of each, and bringing in what COVID-19 might bring us in terms of austerity measures. They will also be looking at alternatives to these global formations, and show how people and communities are actively working to disrupt continual environmental degradation and global inequality.
